The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray and he taught them the Lord’s Prayer, and showed them how to pray by his example. We can learn loads from Jesus and also from each other. Find out how other modern-day disciples around us at Haven Green talk to their heavenly Father.

When do I find time to be with God?
"When do I find time to be with God in my day?" This is a good question! Before Amy, I was pretty disciplined at reading my Bible and praying. As I had an hour's commute to work, I more often than not did my reading on the tube and then had a good while to pray about it and other things. Also Craig and I would sometimes do the reading together - especially at weekends or on holiday. However, since the arrival of our lovely daughter, I have found making or finding time for this to be a big challenge, much to my regret. Quite early on in Amy's life I did start a prayer time in the morning when I wash and change her out of her nightclothes ready for the day. We sing a chorus and thank God for our sleep, health, commit us and 'Daddy's' day to the Lord and pray for others. I also find that walking through the park to the shops can be another opportunity for me to pray. I always have liked walking and praying, so this isn't that new and as Amy is safe in her pram and if she's enjoying looking around, it sometimes gives me space to talk to God. However, my Bible- reading could be better and I miss it... If anyone in a similar position has any helpful advice for me I would be very grateful!"

But how do I pray?
“We are a family of four children and two working adults. We believe that praying together is a very important part of our daily routine. It has not been easy to get together everyday as a family and pray. At times we feel tired, not in the mood, maybe the TV or working patterns get in the way... As a family we begin the day by praying together. We read the Bible and then pray. This is the hardest part as some mornings we are too tired to wake up. Linda and Joana are the ones who stand in the gap in the mornings by reading their daily proverbs. If we don't pray together in the morning everyone needs to pray on their own, read a proverb for the day. In the evening after dinner and washing up, we gather together to read the Bible and pray. Then we go to sleep.”
Have we missed a day?
"Yes, there are days we have gone to bed without praying as a family. If we seem tired, Daniel (3) will always remind us and ask why we are going to bed without reading the Bible. There are times when we feel discouraged but we still have to pray as the Bible encourages us to pray without ceasing.
We have seen God's hand at work in our lives through prayer. God has brought us together as a family; he has seen us through the hardest times of settling into the UK away from our family. We have found it helpful to put down all our prayer points in a book. We tick as God answers them and at the end of the year we praise God for the numerous answered prayers".
