Building Works 2009
After over 125 years service in Ealing the building where Haven Green Baptist Church has met was showing its age, and various areas of the fabric had deteriorated so that it became necessary to carry out extensive repairs. Additionally, there was a need to minimise energy wastage and to update services such as the electrical wiring.
God graciously provided Haven Green with the means to address these issues.
Borras Construction were appointed as our main contractor and they undertook a 23 week programme to carry out essential works throughout the church buildings. Click here for a detailed programme showing the various work elements with key milestones of the project.
January 2010 Update
The project got larger!
Once the scaffolding was up, close examination of the windows and masonry indicated that more work was required than we had hoped or budgeted for. The church raised £23,000 in a few weeks to enable all the high level stained glass windows to be repaired.
As the scaffolding came down, the reconstructed spire, reslated roof and repaired windows helped to bring the building back to its former glory. God's glory demonstrated by the congregation that meets inside remains unchanged.
Before After
How will you be affected by the building works?
· Scaffolding has now being removed from the building and all the works are completed subject to a few incidental items.
· The main car park is now back in use, but still restricted to use by church members and those actually on site.
· The small car park is clear of contractor's cabins.
There was a celebration of the completed works in the afternoon of Sunday 31st January (see Ezra below and Nehemiah 12:27ff).
If you want to know more about the project, please contact James at the church office.
Our prayer requests were:
- For this building and those who meet in it to be continually used in the service of God.
- For works to be well planned, carried out safely, and to be of a high standard.
- For minimal disruption to the work of the church during repairs.
- To be a good witness to the various contractors employed.
- For the faith to trust that God will supply all our needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
and we believe God has answered all our prayers.
Ezra 3:10-13 When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise the LORD, as prescribed by David king of Israel. With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD : "He is good; his love to Israel endures forever." And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.
